A new restaurant at the corner of Arapahoe and 22nd streets opens its doors today, and it’s not Baron von Ruzi’s.
“That name was a running inside joke until we could think of a name for the restaurant,” said Rachael Schwab, manager and part owner of The Lobby.
Aptly named “The Lobby” because of its location in the lobby of the old Paris Hotel, the new restaurant will serve “sophisticated comfort food” for affordable prices.
“It’s American food with a flair,” Schwab said.
All of the standard appetizers and entrees are prepared with a special twist designed to separate them from the norm.
“Our stuffed burgers are really stuffed,” Schwab said. “We actually roll out the beef, layer in the cream cheese and jalapeno or whatever, and roll it back up so that the flavor cooks through the whole burger.”
The menu includes fried bleu cheese or pancetta-wrapped shrimp as appetizers, while entrees include grilled ribeye or pork loin stuffed with apples and goat cheese.
The menu is largely the creation of chef Charley Sinden, formerly of Denver’s “Nine75” restaurant. His inventive creations fit with The Lobby’s goal of providing “good food for people in jeans.”
In addition to the imaginative menu, The Lobby also serves 10 different beers on tap served in craft glassware. And they offer $7 martinis and 25 different whiskies. Schwab’s husband, co-owner Cory Schwab, is also the owner of The Whiskey Bar at Larimer and 22nd streets.
The restaurant also offers a large patio with a European courtyard, ample space for private parties and functions, and happy hour from 3-6 p.m. daily, featuring $3, $4 and $5 food and drink specials.
Hours are Monday-Thursday from 3-11 p.m.; Friday-Saturday from 3 p.m.-midnight. Brunch is served Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
