Latest fashions and gear at the Snow Show

The SIA Snow Show kicked off yesterday, bringing more than 3,100 exhibitors representing more than 800 snow sports brands to the Colorado Convention Center.

Here are a few of the cool things that we saw:

Tail Wags Helmet Covers Inc.

Helmets Ń moms love them, kids hate them. But all of that is changing thanks to companies like Tail Wags Helmet Covers Inc. that are manufacturing helmet covers that the little ones are begging to wear.

The innovative Canadian company offers a wide range of well-priced shower cap style helmet covers with designs resembling a princess, owl, Easter bunny, zebra, shark, and more.

“Anything that gets kids to wear their helmets is a plus,” said Jennifer Kepes of Tail Wags Helmet Covers Inc.

Molehill Mountain Equipment

Molehill Mountain Equipment is making children’s products that enable, encourage, and enhance family participation in year round active lifestyles. The Idaho-based company’s products include some of the best outdoor wear for kids on the market.

Their newest product line of jackets, vests and one-piece buntings were among the coziest kids clothes on display at the Snow Show.

“We were trying to invent an alternative to our successful line of down jackets and buntings, but in more compact packages,” said Doug Faude, president of Molehill. “Our Quilt-Tec line allows for versatile and layering that was difficult with our down line Ń the warmest puffiest garments in the Molehill lineup.”

FogShield Sport

Bausch and Lomb is helping make goggles that fog up a thing of the past. The company is displaying its FogShield Sport, an anti-fog and lens-cleaning treatment for sports goggles, at the Snow Show this weekend.

It’s simple; FogShield Sport pre-moistened towlettes simultaneously prevent fog from forming on goggles for eight hours or more while also helping keep lenses clean. And it only takes one application.

“FogShield Sport is the long-awaited solution to one of the biggest problems that people encounter when participating in skiing, snowboarding, paintball or similar outdoor sports Ń obstructed vision caused by foggy goggles,” said a statement from John Stewart of Vision Accessories for Bausch and Lomb. “We’re excited to demonstrate how FogShield Sport serves as the ideal complement to the other ski products on display at the show by helping skiers enjoy a day on the slopes without their goggles fogging up.”

Burton

Even though the SIA Snow Show moved from Las Vegas to Denver this year, Burton Snowboard kept the feel of Sin City alive by turning its reserved space at the Snow Show into a functioning casino. But along with the glitz and kitsch was an impressive line of new boards, too.

Burton had on display the Method Ń one of the nicest rides around Ń that was tweaked into a hybrid combining the rocker and camber. According to Burton publicist Mia Troy-Vowell, pictured, the hybrid Method has a fantastic edge hold and is the lightest board Burton has ever made.

Burton also displayed the Americana outfit they designed for the US Olympic Snowboarding Team. But unless you’re one of the eight U.S. Olympian snowboarders, this awesome plaid blazer and vintage denim pants look isn’t for you.

Base Camp LLC

Anyone in need of a great ski or snowboard backpack should look no further than Base Camp LLC. The Colorado based company had a great selection of cool colored backpacks with horizontal and vertical snowboard straps.

Base Camp backpacks offer back protection, and are CamelBak adaptable.

“They’re a lot lighter than anything else,” said Abbott Smith, Base Camp owner. “They’re really good day packs.” Pictured is Smith and another Base Camp employee.

Crescent Moon

Crescent Moon is coming off its strongest year ever and is looking forward to a great 2010, according to President Jake Thamm, pictured. The local company makes its snowshoes in Boulder and prides itself as having the best bindings on the market. According to Thamm, the company is the most environmentally friendly snowshoe maker in the world.

Thamm said that the snowshoeing industry has been growing like crazy in recent years, and that Crescent Moon has been growing on top of that. In fact, the bigger snowshoe that appeals to the enthusiasts has been starting to outgrow the smaller snowshoe that has been so popular for years, he said.

“The snowshoe industry is a nice and exciting place to be,” Thamm said.

Fat-ypus

Fat-ypus, which rhymes with platypus, has some of its new rocker model skiis on display at the Snow Show. According to Jared Mazlish of Fat-ypus, pictured, the new rocker model has been insanely popular.

Fat-ypus has been in business about five years, and is based out of Breckenridge. The Fat-ypus competition team includes well-known athletes like David Babic, and the company is a good way to go for people looking for unique, well-crafted skis.
