Auto Show revs upGoing on through Sunday at Convention CenterGene Davis, DDN Staff WriterThursday, April 8, 2010 | | | MOVIE STAR CAR — This concept Corvette Stingray appeared in the film “Transformers 2” and was named “Sideswipe” in the film. This vehicle and many others are at the Denver Auto Show. |
The Denver Auto Show is revving into gear this week with more brands and models than have ever appeared at the show in its 100-plus year history.
This year’s show — which is running through Sunday at the Colorado Convention Center — will give attendees a look at this year’s hot models as well a sneak peak at some 2011 cars. A large percentage of the 500-plus cars are green friendly; everything from new plug in cars that let people drive more than 30 miles without using the combustion engine to automobiles boasting new clean diesel are featured.
“Consumers have more and more choices in the marketplace than they ever had before,” said Tim Jackson of the Denver Auto Show. ”There are many more brands, models, and power source options today than there were 10-15 years ago.”
In addition to the green-friendly cars, the Denver Auto Show has gasp-inducing concept cars such as the Chevrolet Corvette that was designed for Transformer 2. The $1.5 million Corvette will likely be built in some form for public consumption in the future, according to Jackson.
The Denver Auto Show, which is promoted as the largest display of new cars between the Mississippi River and Los Angeles, has been bringing in crowds since 1902. Jackson attributed the show’s longevity to a consistent public interest in personal mobility.
This is the first year the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) has hosted the show. The Metro Denver Automobile Dealers Association previously put on the event until it merged with CADA in November.
The Denver Auto Show is a family friendly affair; the fire truck playground will thrill the littler ones while the grownups will ooh and ah at some of the new cars. Jackson is expecting a good turnout this week from the both the Denver Auto Show regulars and newcomers.
“A lot of people come to the show every year, others come just periodically to see what the trends are,” said Jackson. “It has a good following.”
